conform to societal norms out of strong social bonds. Weak bonds = more crime

Beleif: people beleive in validity of laws and norms and strongly accept them.
Attachment: strong attachment to role models form sense of responsibility
Committment: ppl committed to goals which are put in jeopardy if they do crimes
Involvement: ppl involved in prosocial structured activities leaving no time for crime
Routine activities theory
peoples routine activities put them in certain places at certain times leaving suitable targets without suitable guardians which motivated offenders take advantage of

ppl weigh up cost and benefit, when benefit outweighs cost crime occurs

society label person criminal so person conforms to that label
