More’s humanism is evident in
“Utopia”
Thomas More was Roman Catholic
William Tyndale was a support of Martin Luther and a supporter of the reformation
Although it is true that More like some modern humanists he did exact reason,
More did not give reason precedent over the church or scriptures. He believed reason to have a place in interpreting scriptures but not in such a way to question the supernatural.
In his work “Dialogue Concerning Haricie’s” -
Since the catholic church is the only trustworthy interpreter of scripture therefore reformers should not even listen to much less believed.
More wrote this as a reply to William Tyndale’s Parable of the wicked man.
More uses the phrase “Christ’s Church”
He refers to Catholic church and implies the Catholic church is the true church of Christ.
