Causes TOS

A

-internal > bony callus, cervical rib
-external >compression (crutches)
-poor posture > (prolonged) hyperkyphosis, Scoliosis, HT + TPs
-Systemic/metabolic disorders> RA, diabetes
-trauma > whiplash
-jt subluxation > cerve spine
-pregnancy

Describe cervical rib

A

-additional rib that forms at transverse process of C7.
-can be small or as long as first rib
-it narrows the interscalene triangle, which compress the vascular bundle

Anterior scalene syndrom

A

-the brachial plexus + subclavian artery pass in between the anterior + mid scalenes. Will experience mainly ulnar nerve symptoms
- TPs in the scalenes will cause px in low lateral neck, rotating to lat shld/arm, over chest, medial scapular boarder
