Purpose of CT in chiropractic
To serve as a follow up to confirm or exclude clinically relevant findings
Is ordered only after an appropriate radiograph exam has been performed and interpreted
Red flags for CT ordering
Questionable chest abdomen and pelvic patho
MRI is contraindicated
Suspected spinal fracture or dislocation secondary to trauma
Bony spinal stenosis
Unstable or complex congenital anomalies or deformities of the spine
CT contraindications are the same as
X Ray - uses ionizing radiation
Why is MRI not routinely performed for intrathoracic patho
Too much motion
Heart
Breathing
Esophageal peristalsis h
Not enough tissue to produce signal
Lungs are filled with air
Not much hydrogen in breathable air
Eventration
Congenital anomaly consisting of failure of muscular development of part or all of hemidiaphrahms
Partial is more common
Seen in PA or Lateral chest view
Azygos lobe and fissure
Accessory fissure created by downward invagination of the azygous vein through the apical portion of the right upper lobe
Azygos lobe is formed by how many pleural layers
