Thorax Extra Flashcards
(21 cards)
Narrowest part of alimentary tract?
- Vermiform appendix and
- Esophagus
Types of muscles in esophagus?
Upper 1/3rd striated muscle
Middle 1/3rd - Striated and smooth muscle
Lower 1/3rd - Smooth muscle
Esophagus passes through which part of diaphragm?
Right crus of diaphragm at T10 level
Blood supply of esophagus?
- Cervical part - Inferior thyroid artery
- Thoracic part - Esophageal branch of Desc. thoracic aorta
- Abdominal part - Esophageal branch of left gastric artery
Venous drainage of esophagus?
- Upper part - Brachiocephalic veins
- Middle part - Azygous vein
- Lower part - Left gastric vein
Intercostal nerves are formed by?
Anterior rami of spinal nerves T1 to T11.
Which is the Subcostal nerve?
Anterior ramus of spinal nerve T12.
Upper 2 intercostal nerves supply?
Upper limbs and intercostal space
Typical intercostal nerves supply?
Only thoracic wall. (3rd to 6th intercostal nerves)
Lower 5 intercostal nerves supply?
Abdominal wall and intercostal spaces.
Largest branch of intercostal nerve is?
Lateral cutaneous branch
Lateral cutaneous branch of 2nd intercostal nerve is?
Intercostobrachial nerve
Muscles supplied by intercostal nerves?
- Intercostal muscles
- Serratus posterior superior
- Transversus thoracis
What is Notalgia paraesthetica?
Abnormal sensation in area between medial edge of scapula and spine due to entrapment of dorsal cutaneous branch of an intercostal nerve as it passes through erector spinae.
Anterior intercostal arteries are derived from?
- 1-6 pairs are from lateral branches of internal thoracic arteries
- 7-9 pairs are from musculophrenic artery
Posterior intercostal arteries are derived from?
- Totally 11 pairs;
- 1st & 2nd pair - from Superior intercostal artery
- Remaining 9 pairs - from posterior surface of thoracic aorta
Principal artery of upper limb is?
Subclavian artery
Which muscle divides subclavian artery?
Scalenus anterior divides it into:
Medial, posterior and Lateral parts.
Branches of first part of subclavian artery?
- Vertebral artery
- Internal thoracic artery
- Thyrocervical trunk:
- Suprascapular artery
- Transverse cervial artery
- Inferior thyroid artery
Branches of second part of subclavian artery?
- Costocervical trunk
- Superior intercostal artery
- Deep cervical artery
Branches of third part of subclavian artery?
Dorsal scapular artery.
