It’s a text about a protest for Khalil during first period
Why does starr stay in class instead of joining the protest?
The other student are just using it as a way to get out of class. They don’t actually care about Khalil

She wants starr to speak out against the police officer to get justice for Khalil. She doesn’t understand why starr has been silent about being the witness
How does Kenya make starr feel guilty?
She tells her that Khalil would have spoken out for her. He would have gone on TV and defended her.
Why is the family unhappy with what Mr.Lewis said when he was interviewed on the news?
He snitched on King for being a drug dealer in Garden Heights. By saying that, he put himself in danger because King and the King Lords won’t be happy

Describe what happens next?
The police ask Mr. Lewis if Maverick is harassing him. Mr. Lewis and Maverick say everything is fine. They keep their hand visible and cooperate.The police ask for ID. When the police officer sees Maverick’s name, he makes him get face-down on the ground. The kids are scared, and Maverick yells for them to go inside. The police pat him down three times but don’t find anything
Why did the police do that?
The police recognized the name and knew he was the father of the witness.
Why do they decided to meet with Ms. Ofrah?
The DA wants to talk to Starr and Starr agrees. They want legal representation first.

Maverick found out the real reson why king wants to find DeVante. DeVante stole 5,000$ from king

He wanted to make sure his family was safe. He used the money to buy bus tickets to get them out of town.

Why does Starr say she’s a Thug too?
She doesn’t think that DeVante and Khalil had much of a choice. She thinks they had to sell drugs to help their families, and she thinks she would have done the same if she was in their shoes

They will let him stay with Uncle Carlos and get him enrolled in an online school. Nana will help tutor him.

What does Starr learn about Khalil from DeVante?
He wasn’t a king Lord. He was selling drugs for King, but he was only doing it to pay King back for the drugs his mom stole.
Why does DeVante sell drugs?
He and his brother felt responsible for his mom and sister, but no one was looking out for him. The king Lords bought him clothes and food when his mom couldn’t. He didn’t want to see his family go hungry, so he joined them.
What does Maverick find out about Starr?
She’s dating a white boy
Why do Starr and Hailey start arguing?
Starr is still upset that Hailey protested Khalil’s death just to get out of class. Hailey doesn’t think it matters
