In between cricoid and thyroid cartilage

Cricothyrotomy (also called cricothyroidotomy) is an infrequent procedure that involves placement of a tube through an incision in the cricothyroid membrane to establish an airway for oxygenation and ventilation

A

Patients can’t talk because there is no way that the air can cause vibration to the vocal cords.

The patient has to put their hand over the tracheostomy to talk.

Infection lumps tend to hurt, eg tonsillitis.

Malignancy does not eg under the breast.
