Later head: Posterolateral surface of the lateral femoral Condyle
Medial head: Posterior surface of medial femoral Condyle, popliteal surface of femoral shaft
Insertion: Posterior surface of the calcaneus (via calcaneal tendon)
Nerve route: Tibial Nerve (S1, S2)
Soleus (O, I and Nerve route)
Origin:
Soleal line, Medial border of tibia, Head of Fibula and Posterior border of Fibula
Insertion:
Posterior surface of calcaneus (via calcaneal tendon)
Nerve route: Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
Plantaris (O, I and Nerve route)
Origin:
Lateral supracondylar line of femur, Oblique popliteal ligament of knee
Insertion:
Posterior surface of calcaneus (via calcaneal tendon)
Nerve route: Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
Popliteus (O, I & Nerve route)
Origin:
Lateral Condyle of femur, posterior horn of lateral meniscus
Insertion:
Posterior surface of proximal tibia
Nerve route: Tibial nerve (L4 - S1)
Tibialis Posterior (O, I & nerve)
Origin:
Posterior surface of tibia, fibula and interosseous membrane
Insertion:
Tuberosity of navicular bone, all cuneiform bones, bases of metatarsal bones 2 - 4 (cuboid bone)
Nerve route: Tibial nerve (L4, L5)
Flexor Digitorum Longus (O, I & Nerve route)
Origin:
Posterior surface of tibia (inferior soleal line)
Insertion:
Bases of distal phalanges of digits 2 - 5
Nerve route: Tibial nerve (L5 - S2)
Flexor Hallucis Longus (O, I & Nerve route)
Origin:
2/3rd of posterior surface of fibula, Interosseous membrane, Posterior intermuscular septum, Fascia of tibialis posterior muscle
Insertion:
Base of distal phalanx of great toe
Nerve route: Tibial nerve (S2, S3)
