Tissue Fluid Flashcards
What is tissue fluid?
the extracellular fluid that bathes tissues
Hydrostatic pressure
pressure exerted by blood
Oncopressure
Pressure exerted by plasma proteins
How does hydrostatic pressure work?
forces tissue fluid out of capillaries to the tissue at the arteriole end
How does oncopressure work?
Draws fluid back into capillaries from the tissue at the venule end
What is the source of hydrostatic pressure?
Contractions of the heart
How do cells interact with tissue fluid?
take in oxygen and nutrients and release metabolic waste into it
Why does tissue fluid formation begin?
At the arteriole end of the capillaries the hydrostatic pressure is greater than in the tissue fluid
What happens due to hydrostatic pressure being higher in the capillaries?
Fluid is forced out of fenestrations forming tissue fluid
What happens to the pressure in the capillaries due to the formation of tissue fluid?
it decreases so its lower at the venule end
What happens in the venule due to fluid loss?
an increase in concentration of plasma proteins means water potential is lower than in the tissue fluid
At the artierial end, which pressure is higher?
Hydrostatic
