Tissue Renewal and Repair Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is Healing?
Tissue Response to:
Wound
Inflammatory Processes in Internal Organs
Cell Necrosis in organs incapable of regeneration
What are the 2 Processes of healing?
Regeneration
Replacement by Connective Tissue
What is Regeneration?
Proliferation of surviving cells to replace lost tissue
Migration of surviving cells into vacant space
What are the groups of body tissues according to their proliferative activity?
Labile Tissues
Stable/ Quiescent Tissues
Permanent (nondividing) Tissues
What are Labile tissues?
They divide actively throughout life to replace lost cells
They regenerate following injury
What are examples of Labile Tissues?
Cells of the epidermis and gastrointestinal mucosa,
Lining of GUT,
Hematopoietic Cells of bone marrow
What are Stable or Quiescent Tissues?
Undergo Few divisions but capable of division when activated
Regenerate following injury
What are examples of Stable or Quiescent tissues?
Hepatocytes
Renal Tubular Cells
Parenchymal Cells of many glands
Mesenchymal Cells
What are examples of mesenchymal cells?
Smooth muscle Cartilage Connective Tissue Endothelium Osteoblasts
What are Permanent Tissues?
Incapable of division and regeneration
Replaced by Scar tissue/ fibrosis/ gliosi in the CNS
What are examples of Permanent/ non-dividing tissues?
Majority of neurons, myocardial cells
