Tissue Types: connective, epithelial, muscle, nervous tissue. Flashcards
(38 cards)
What are the 4 types of tissues?
epithelial, connective, muscle, nervous.
What are the epithelial tissues?
thin sheets that make up the coverings and linings of the body and the organs.
What are the connective tissues?
supportive, structural role in the body.
What do the connective tissues also include?
blood, cartilage, bone, areolar, adipose.
What are the muscle tissues?
contraction of muscle tissue that allow movement, also aids internal processes such as digestion and circulation.
What are the nervous tissues?
conducts electrical impulses through the body, enables fast transfer of information.
What are the 3 main functions of connective tissues?
to protect, to transport, and to insulate.
What do connective tissues protect?
the skull protects the brain, the ribs protect the heart and the lungs.
What do connective tissues transport?
substances into the blood.
What do connective tissues insulate?
adipose tissue contains fatty deposits to help to prevent heat loss.
What are the 5 main connective tissue types?
cartilage, adipose, areolar, bone, blood.
Question: What is the function of the epithelial tissues?
makes up the coverings and the linings of organs/ organs systems.
Question: What is the tissue type that transfers information via electrical impulses?
nervous tissue.
Question: What is the function of the muscle tissues?
contraction of muscle tissues is there to allow and provide movement.
Question: What is the tissue type that provides structure, support, and transports in the body.
connective tissue.
What do the epithelial tissues cover?
the body and line cavities, hollow organs and tubes.
Where are epithelial tissues found?
glands of the endocrine system.
What are the 3 main functions of epithelial tissues?
to protect, to secrete, to absorb.
What are the 4 main types of simple epithelial tissues?
simple cuboidal.
simple squamous.
simple columnar.
ciliated.
What shape are the simple cuboidal tissues?
cube shaped/ cuboids.
What shape are the simple squamous tissues?
irregular and flat shaped, squished.
What shape are the simple columnar tissues?
thin and long columns.
What shape are the ciliated tissues?
long, wavy columns that have little hairs on the top (cilia) that are able to waft back and fourth.
What are the 2 types of compound epithelial tissues?
simple compound epithelium.
keratinised compound epithelium.
