What is TKD?

Scientific use of body in self defence - gained ultimate use of facilities through physical and mental training.

What is the meaning of Chon-Ji?

Chon-Ji (19) - named after "Heaven & Earth". In Asia, this means the beginning of the world… and thus this is the initial pattern learned.

What is the meaning of Dan-Gun?

Dan-Gun (21) - named after the Holy Dan-Gun, the legendary founder of Korea (in 2,333 BC).

Do-San (24) - named after the alias for the Korean patriot, Ahn Chang-Ho (1876-1938).

What is the meaning of Won-Hyo?

Won-Hyo (28) - named after Won-Hyo, a monk who introduced Buddhism to Korea in 686 AD.

Yul-Gok (38) - the pseudonym of the great philosopher and scholar Yi I (1536-1584) nicknamed the “Confucius of Korea”, the 38 movements represent his birthplace on the 38th Parallel and the diagram represents the Scholar.

Joong-Gun (32) - named after Ahn Joong-Gun, a Korean patriot who assassinated the first Japanese governor-general of Korea (Hiro Bumi Ito).

Toi-Gye (37) - named after the pseudonym for a famous neo-Confucius scholar, Yi Hwang. The 37 movements represent his birthplace on the 37th latitude.

Hwa-Rang (29) - named after the Hwa-Rang youth group, which originated in the Silla Dynasty in the early 7th century. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry Division, where Tae Kwon Do developed into maturity.
