Q

How did China’s economy experience such a massive boost?

A

Although China’s economy went through many changes and setbacks during the 1950s, the foundations were being laid for future stability and economic growth, in much the same way that Stalin’s Five Year Plans had provided a basis for the USSR’s emergence as a superpower. However, at this early stage, China was not yet on the way to being an economic giant.

A

They also believed that they had more in common with former colonies because of their own experience of Western imperialism. This appealed to some Marxists in former colonies in Africa and Asia, though no other states became completely Maoist or allied solely to China.
