  • our group purchases 460,00 tonnes of tobacco leaf a year, over 80% of it by volume from farmers and suppliers from emerging economies
  • We aim to ensure that we only purchase leaf from responsible and sustainable sources
  • our social responsibility in tobacco production programme addresses the social and environmental issues associated with tobacco growing and processing and reaches around 250,000 farmers who supply all the leaves we buy.
  • the programme covers good agricultural practices for improving soil and water conservation, appropriate use of agrochemicals, and environmental, occupational health and safety
  • it is also active in eliminating exploitave child labour and promoting afforestation initiatives for the farmers who require wood for tobacco curing to obtain it from sustainable resources.
  • BAT has developed a supply chain programme it includes BEST, their Business Enabler survey tool which sets out in detail the standards they expect of the suppliers from where they get the leaf from

  • social responsibility in tobacco production SRTP is a significant programme that aims to ensure that they only purchase tobacco leaf from responsible and sustainable sources, by working to address the agricultural, environmental and social issues associated; with tobacco leaf growing and processing
