How were bodies often buried?
Everyone was often dressed and buried with objects , wealthy often had jewellery

What can the caskets tell us about the Greeks?
they were painted so we can see a funeral procession
What did caskets tell us about a women’s role in her funeral?
they were wailing and closer to the body so would of had a very important part in there burial
What can caskets tell us about the bodies?
they were often dressed, e.g short tunic
What was a libation?
a drink offering to the Gods
What questions do the caskets raise?
if all funerals were the same and if things on them happened at a normal funeral
What were cist graves like?
small, shallow pits with the sides covered in stone slabs
How were the bodies laid out in a cist grave?
curved
What was a shaft grave like?
a deeper version of the cist grave with a space created at the bottom for a body and often reused
How many shaft and cist graves in GCB?
14 shaft graves and 10 cist graves
How many buried in a shaft grave?
Usually multiple and other bodies would be pushed to the side

What was a tumulus tomb like?
a raised mound of earth under which bodies were buried
What were tholos tombs like?
a tomb with a high domed roof from a hill sometimes with a side chamber

What was the dromos?
a long entrance into tholos and chamber tombs with an evacuated slope
What were chamber tombs?
like tholos tombs but dug out of the earth with stone to make the roof

What would it mean if someone was buried with weapons?
they were a solider
What would it mean if someone was buried with pottery?
most common people were
