Why can’t we use the oropharyngeal tube with conscious patients?
It will stimulate the gag reflex and cause the patient to vomit
Which tool protects the airway against aspiration?
Endotracheal tube
What are the indications of the endotracheal tube?
- Protect the airway against aspiration,
- General surgery - allow the ventilator to do the work of breathing,
- Support the breathing
How to know the size of the endotracheal tube?
According to age and sex
What are the types of laryngoscopes?
Macintosh (curved blade), Miller (straight blade)
What are the indications of the laryngoscope?
- Visualizing the upper airway
- Endotracheal intubation
- Insertion of the nasogastric tube
- Foreign body removal
What are the types of oxygen masks?
- High flow devices: venturi mask
- Low flow devices: nasal cannula, Simple face mask, Non-rebreathing mask
What are the indications of IV cannula?
- Administration of (fluids, medications or blood)
- Giving antidotes
- To have blood sample to confirm the diagnosis
