13
Q

Why does heat move through conduction?

A

This is because particles are very closed together so heat vibrations can easily pass through.

16
Q

How does convection work?

A

You heat the liquid, then particles gain heat, then the particles move further apart, making the warm water less dense, therefore the warm water rises and the cool water takes the place at the bottom.

What is Power?

A

It is the rate of energy doing work or energy transferred

20
Q

What are the two equations for Power?

21
Q

What are renewable energy resources?

A

They never run out.

22
Q

Give 4 examples of Renewable energy resources?

A

Hydroelectric
Solar power
Wind power
Tides

23
Q

What are advantages of Renewable resources?

A

Never run out

They don’t contribute to climate change

24
Q

What are disadvantage of Renewable resources?

A

Wind and solar power are not reliable

Useful for countries with lots of rivers

25
What are non-renewable resources?
Resources that will run out from fossil fuels
26
Give 3 examples of Non-renewable resources.
Coal Oil Gas
27
What are advantages of Non renewable resources?
Provide most of our energy
28
What are disadvantages of Non renewable resources?
They run out | Do damage to the environment
29
What are advantages of wind power?
Renewable | Doesn't produce CO2
30
What are disadvantages of Wind power?
Noisy | Unreliable as won't generate electricity in non windy conditions.
31
What are advantages of Solar power?
Renewable | Doesn't produce CO2
32
What are disadvantages of Solar power?
Can be expensive | Unreliable will not produce electricity in cloud
33
What are advantages of Geothermal power?
Renewable | Doesn't produce CO2
34
What is the disadvantage of Geothermal power?
Can only be used in certain areas such as Iceland and Japan
35
What are advantages of Hydroelectric power?
Renewable Short start up time doesn't produce CO2
36
What are disadvantages of Hydroelectric power?
Extremely expensive to build dams | Very destructive to wild life habitats
37
What are Advantages of Wave power?
Renewable | Doesn't produce CO2
38
What are the disadvantages of Wave power?
Not reliable | Noisy which could affect wildlife.
39
What is the advantages of Tidal power?
Renewable | Tidal barrage could be used as a bridge
40
What are the disadvantages of Tidal power?
Expensive | Destructive to wildlife
41
What are Advantages of Biofuels?
Renewable | Carbon neutral
42
What are Disadvantages of Biofuels?
Destructive to habitats for wild life | Land used to grow biofuels could be used to grow crops.
43
Name one Environmental problem about Fossil fuels.
Oil spillages affect mammals and birds that live in and around the sea.
44
Give two reasons why we currently do not use more renewable energy in the Uk.
It is expensive | If more power plants are built for bio fuels lots of people will not want to live next to one.
