What is stability?
The ability for biological structure to RESIST change
What is Resilience?
The speed and ability to return to its original structure after environmental change
What is linkage density?
Average number of actual links (arrows) per species in a food web
What is Connectence?
The number of links divided by the amount of possible links
What is food chain length?
The number of trophic levels
What is the general pattern regarding food web complexity ?
The higher the food web complexity (Richness), the higher the stability , but remember that the more complex the food web, the lower the resilience
Explain the “Redundancy Model”
Species are passangers on a plane, it does not matter if passangers are removed but it well matter if the pilots are removed
Explain the ‘Rivet model”
species are passangers on a plane, the removal of a few are okay but the removal of alot are not okay
What is Diversity-Stability (Insurence) hypothosis?
Species richness provides insurance and buffers or minimizes chances of changes in structure under change
What is Responce Diversity?
Variation in responsesto change among species in a group
Why is response Diversity critical?
Because species well respond differently to environmental change , these different responses maintain structure
