topic 3 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Lung volumes
Tidal Volume (TV):
- volume of air inhaled or exhaled in normal breathing
-0.5L
Inspiratory Reserve Volume (IRV)
-additional air that can be inhaled after normal inhalation
-3L
Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV):
-addinition air that can be exhaled after normal exhalation
-1.2L
Residual Volume (RV):
-air remaining in lungs after maximal exhalation
-1.2L
Lung Capacities:
Inspiratory Capacity (IC):
-total air that can be inspired after normal expiration
-IC = IRV + TV
-3.5L
Functional Residual Capacity (FRC):
-air remaining in lungs after normal expiration
-FRC = ERV + RV
-2.4
Vital Capacity (VC):
-Maximum air exhaled after a maximal inspiration.
-VC = IRV + TV + ERV
-4.7 L
Total Lung Capacity (TLC):
-Total air in the lungs after maximal inspiration.
TLC = IRV + TV + ERV + RV
-5.9 L
