What is preparation and planning?
Interviewers are encouraged to plan their interviews carefully, including a timeline of what is already known, a list of facts that need to be verified and any practical issues
What does E stand for?
Engage and explain
What is engage and explain?
Interviewers need to engage with the witness, they need to form a rapport with them rather than simply sitting down and firing questions at them
What does A stand for?
Accounts, clarification, challenge
What is Accounts, clarification, challenge?
Interviewers should allow the witness to give their account of the event without interruptions, use open questions rather than closed ones, and summerise info that has been given to them
What does C stand for?
Closure
What is closure?
Interviewers should close down interviews appropriately to build rapport and ensure witnesses are more likely to return
What does E stand for?
Evaluation
What is evaluation?
The interviewer need to evaluate the interview to ensure everything was covered and any inconveniences were addressed
