What is mass media
A range of sourced, including television and radio, newspapers and journals, websites, blogs and social media.
What is an advantage to using a range of sources to gather information
Gather various perspectives on a story and so form a balanced opinion.
What is the taking a limited approach
Represents a risk because the in which difference news sources treat the same issue can be very different.
Why is bias usually found in reporting
Each organisation will put forward oren own subjective point of view.
Characteristics of financial press?
- aimed at financially literate and industry practitioners
- factual and technical
- reports current facts
- looks at the situation as a whole rather than how it might affect the individual.

- less technical style than financial press
- traditional approach
- in depth coverage
- each has its own political agenda
What are the two main types of articles in broadsheet press
Macroeconomic- reporting of company results
Personal finance articles- aimed at people earning higher incomes

- shorter and less technical
- aims to provide readers with info

- red tops
- more celebrity gossip and sensational crime stories
- short stories

What are think tanks
A specialist body that is set up to think about and report on issues within a chosen area
What is a subjective report
Composed from the point of view of the journalist, aims to persuade people of the validity of this view, it does not offer both sides of the story.
What is an objective report
Tried to see both sides of an issue, finishes by offering a balanced conclusion.
Methods of practising media bias
- words such as “we” and “us”
- gender and race bias can lead to only one POV
- leaving out certain parts that don’t suit the agenda.
