What precautions must you follow when working aloft?

A
  1. Wear non slip footwear
  2. Wear overalls, trousers tucked into socks
  3. Remove any loose objects from pockets
  4. Wear an in date safety harness secured above the person to the ships superstructure
  5. Secure tools and equipment via a lanyard to the ships structure. Hammers are to have wrist loops attached
  6. Ensure that a responsible person acts as a sentry while a person is aloft.

What precautions must you follow when working in a confined space?

A
  1. The space/compartment is to be cool
  2. The space is to be force ventilated for 24 hours minimum
  3. After 24 hours the atmosphere is to be tested safe before the space can be accessed.
  4. If after 24 hours the atmosphere is not safe it is to be ventilated for a further 12 hours and then re-tested
  5. This procedure is to be followed until the atmosphere is tested to be safe
  6. A gas free certificate must be issued before any entry is allowed into the space.

A

The purpose of PPE is to reduce hazard to maintainers of equipment. and should be worn when residual danger still exists even after a tag out.

A

It means divers are either in the water near the ship, doing work underneath the ship or are about to be doing either of those tasks.

  1. Shaft brake is to be on
  2. Steering gear is to be isolated
  3. Systems that discharge underwater are to be isolated
  4. All sonar devices to be shut down
  5. cathodic protection is to be turned off

  2. stand on a rubber mat.
  3. wear insulating footwear and gloves.
