Topic 6: Parentage Flashcards

1
Q

What is an exclusion analysis?

A

Given the offspring genotype, and the genotype of a known parent (mother), exclude all individuals if they do not carry the required parental allele, and that single non-excluded parent must be the dad

Q

What is the next step after exclusion analysis if there if more than one individual who has not been excluded?

A

You perform an inclusive likelihood analysis that calculates the probability of the offsprings observed genotype given the possible parents. The individual with
highest likelihood is considered the parent

Q

What is the probability of exclusion?

A

The significance of a paternity analysis is judged by the probability that a random individual will be excluded of being the father.

Q

What is the probability of exclusion at one locus for a given offspring when you know which allele must have been paternally derived?

A

Pex = (1-a)^2
Where a is the paternally derived allele

Q

What is the probability of exclusion at one locus for a given offspring when either allele could have come from the father (both mom and dad are heterozygotes)?
