TOPIC 7.3: Translation Flashcards
(12 cards)
Initiation
The beginning of the translation
What is elongation?
As ribosomes move down the mRNA strand, amino acids are added according to the genetic code
P Site
Binds to the tRNA holding
growing polypeptide chain
A Site
Binds to the tRNA holding the
next AA in the chain
E Site
Site from which tRNA’s are
discharged after losing their AA
List the distinct tRNA sites
Amino Acid attachment site
Anticodon
double stranded sections
Two loops
How many different enzymes and amino acids are there?
20 of each
Four different levels of protein
Primary
Secondary
Tertiary
Quatenary
Primary structure
Interacts with environment to determine overall shape
Secondary structure
Amino acids in a chain reaction to form larger structures; resulting from H-bonds between Amino acids
Tertiary structure
Describes how polypeptide chains
fold as a result of interactions
between AA R groups.
Quaternary structure
This structure results from interactions between multiple polypeptide
chains. Many functional proteins consist of chains held together
by H-bonds.
