Q

Aetiology of carb overload

A

Starch/ fructose i.e oligofructose- alters the
microbial flora- incr lactic acid production- decr
in the intraluminal pH– incr intestinal
permeability and osmotic P which leads to entry
of:
1. endo and exotoxins
2. vasoactive amines
3. bact by products
The 3 of these cause a systemic inflamm
response– insulin resistance— LAMINITIS!!

Q

Aetiology of Obesity + EMS + PPID and insulin

resistance

A

Obesity: proinflamm state- TNF alpha secreted
by adipose
Insulin: VasoC. incr adhesion molecules on
endothel– migration of Ne to the laminar tissues
Platelet activation by biogenic amines and
intestinal endotoxins

Q

What is insulin resistance

A

When the normal amount of insulin is unable to
remove glucose from the blood and into :
muscle, fat, liver. The pancreas secretes more
insulin to compensate- this causes
hyperinsulinaemia
