Allied air raids
WHO? USA and UK bombed. 3.5 million Germans died
WHERE? Hamburg, Berlin and Cologne were targeted
WHAT? Homes, factories, roads and railway lines were targeted
WHEN? 1942 - 1945
WHY? To ruin war reduction and lower morale. This was a success
What was rationed during WW2?
Meat, bread, fats and sugar
Ersatz goods
These are substitute goods that couldn’t be imported to Germany anymore eg acorns for coffee, growing crops in gardens and parks, ate alternate foods like daisy/dandelion salads
Black market
Illegal market which sold items such as food, perfume and luxurious clothing during the war
Who was given extra rations during WW2?
Miners (essential for fuel) , blood donors (providing essential services) and pregnant women (healthy Aryan baby born)
Exchange centres
Germans could obtain new clothes, shoes and furnituree
Women during WW2
The Nazi aim for women to be housewives and mothers was abandoned. In 1943 women were encouraged to do factory work as there was a shortage of skilled workers (men at war) and during this time 40% of women made up the workforce.
