What is Lifespan?
The time span from conception to death that can be divided into stages.
What is growth?
Measurable changes in the body due to an increase in the size and number of the body’s cells.
What are the stages of the human lifespan?
Prenatal, infancy, toddlerhood, childhood, youth, adulthood (early, middle and late)
What is the age range for each of the lifespan stages?
Prenatal- conception/birth Infancy- birth - 18mths Toddlerhood- 18mths- 3 years Childhood- 3 years - 12 years Youth- 12 to 18 years Adulthood (early) - 18- 39 years Adulthood (middle)- 40-64 years Adulthood (late)- 65+ years
What is the role of the scrotum?
Pouch of skin that holds the testes
What is the role of the testes?
Pair of glands that produce sperm and secrete testosterone
What is the role of the Vas Deferens?
Transport sperm from testes to penis
What is the role of the Epididymis?
Stores sperm temporarily while it matures. (About 20 days to mature)
What is the role of the urethra?
To transport urine and semen to tip of the penis
What is the role of the seminal vesicles?
Secrete fluid to form semen
What is the role of the prostate gland?
Secrete fluid to form semen
What is the main part of the female reproductive system?
The ovaries
What is the role of the vagina?
To receive penis and sperm. It is the birthing canal.
What is the role of the uterus?
Organ that receives, retains and nourishes a fertilised egg and developing baby.
What is the role of the Fallopian tubes?
To transport the egg (ova) from the ovaries to the uterus. Fertilisation occurs.
