How do you find 4 figure grid reference?
Easting to the left and Northing down, EENN.
How do you find 6 figure grid reference?
Easting to the left, distance from easting to point in millimeters divided by 2, Northing down, distance from northing down to point in millimeters divided by 2, EEENNN.
What are the 8 directions in a compass?
N, S, E, W, NE, NW, SE, SW.
What does bearing mean?
Direction
What are contours?
They are imaginary lines that join places having the same height above sea level in meters. (Brown in color)
What are trigonometrical or triangulation stations?
Shown with a small triangle, mark the corners of a triangle on the ground marked out for surveys.
What is benchmark height?
Benchmark indicates height above sea level in meters determined by levelling.
What are spot heights?
Spot heights show the height of a point above sea level in meters generally along roads, between contours and near the sea level to study relief features.
What is relative height and depth?
It is symbolized by the letter “r”. Relative height indicates the height of a feature in meters from the base to top of the feature and not from the mean sea level. Examples: Bank height, embankment, sand dunes, steep slope.
Col:
A depression between two peaks of a ridge.
Saddle:
Similar to a col but higher, broader and gently sloping from the peaks of a ridge.
Ridge:
A long stretch of upland with steep slopes.
Linear Ridge:
A long and narrow continuous upland with steep slopes.
Watershed:
A line running along the highest points of a ridge.
Vertical Rock Cliffs:
The slopes are nearly vertical and is shown with contours which merges.
Conical Hills:
Shown with contours run nearly circular becoming smaller and smaller near the summit.
Escarpment:
Is a landform with sides sloping in opposite directions with a steep scarp slope and a gentle dip slope.
