What is Exchange?
An act of giving one thing and receiving another (especially of the same type or value) in return.
What is Cultural Diffusion?
When certain cultural values, ideas, or even cultures are adopted by different cultures.
What is the Silk Road?
An ancient trade route that linked the western world with the Middle East and Asia.
What is a Trade Network?
A network identified as a series of pathways and stoppages used for the commercial transport of cargo.
What is Commerce?
The activity of buying and selling, especially on a large scale.
What does Interregional mean?
Of, relating to, or conducted between two or more regions.
How was the Silk Road started, and who facilitated it?
The Silk Road started because Zhang Qian was imprisoned, and when he returned to China, he persuaded the Emperor to open it. The Han Dynasty facilitated it.
How was the Indian Ocean Trade facilitated, or in other words, who controlled/ran it?
Maurya and Gupta provided stability. Individual Merchant Towns ran the trade network.
How are trade networks and the Bubonic Plague related?
Rats with fleas with the disease would travel with merchants, either by land or sea. In the trading center, the disease would spread.
What are things that all trade networks have in common?
Boost economies, diplomatic relationships, cultural diffusion, and Disease.
How is the Indian Ocean Exchange different from the Silk Road?
More items were able to be traded on the Indian Ocean Exchange because of boats. Using boats made trade more efficient and cheaper. Silk Road focuses on luxury items, however, the Ocean Exchange focuses on trading common goods.
