Q
oestrogen
A
- steroid hormone found in animals
-these are small, hydrophobic lipid based hormones that can diffuse through cell membranes and can pass into nucleus through pores
-oestrogen diffuses into cytoplasm through CSM - oestrogen diffuses through a nuclear pore into the nucleus
-oestrogen attaches to an oestrogen receptor to undergo a conformational change - the new shape of the receptor allows it to detach from the protein complex and be expressed
-oestrogen receptor binds to a cofactor which enables it to bind to the promoter region of the gene stimulating RNA polymerase binding and stimulating gene transcription
