Transfer of learning Flashcards
(7 cards)
what is transfer of skill
the effect of learning and performance of one skill affects the learning and performance on another
describe positive transfer
learning a new skill facilitates the learning of an additional skil
tends to happen when two skills have a similar shape and form
describe negative transfer
learning a skill inhibits the learning of an additional skill
this can occur when there is some familiarity in the environment
causes of negative transfer
- the first skill hasnt been completely learned yet
- performer misunderstanding the different movement requirements
- a familiar stimulus requiring a new response
- skills appear the same but are not
- conflicting skills are taught too close together
- when the practice environment is different to competition evironment
- poor coaching
describe zero transfer
there are no similarities between the tasks, therefore they have no effect on each other
describe bilateral transfer
learning and performing a skill on one side of the body is then transferred to the opposite side
from one limb to another
ensuring positive transfer
- ensure the performer has overlearned the original skill first
- make the practice environment as close to the game situation as possible
- give praise and positive reinforcement
- avoid teaching skills close together they may appear the same but have a distinct difference.
