2
Q

Capillary function and steps

A

Connects the Arteries and Veins and is the site of gas exchange. Materials are diffused out of the blood and into the tissues. The blood picks up the waste products and the waste is diffused in the capillary.

Q

Fluids and capillary

A

fluids (h2o, o2, glucose) exit the capillary and flow between tissues. They produce wastes that diffuse back into the capillary.

Q

three features of arteries

A

High pressure caused by the narrow lumen.

contraction/recoil due to the thick muscular wall. The walls contract to keep force of blood through vessels.

Elastic/strong, collagen + elastic fibres in wall, maintain structure to not burst.

9
Q

Explain high pressure in artery

A

walls of the arteries is pushed outward which widen the lumen, stretching elastic fibres in wall. this store is potential energy.

14
Q

explain overall pressure in vessels

A

Blood exiting the heart is under very high pressure, travels in waves and pulses. once blood reaches capillaries, it is under very low pressure, without pulse. Pressure is 0MMHG once in veins.

15
Q

explain overall velocity

A

Blood is under very high speed going through the artery, once it reaches the capillary it is under very low speed. This is due to the decrease of the diameter in the capillary. Once blood exits the capillary and in the vein it is under high speed again.
