Treatment Flashcards

Q

Treatment goals

A
  1. prevent mortality + morbidity by qSOFA + intervention
  2. early implementation therapies - fluid resuscitation + antimicobials
  3. reduce/ eliminate organ dysfunction
  4. elminiate source of infection
  5. avoid adverse reactions to treatment
  6. provide cost-effective therapy

Q

General approach to treatment

A
  1. recognition sepsis + early implementation therapy
  2. fluid therapy = restore intravascular volume depletion
  3. early adm broad spec antimicrobial
  4. inotropic therapy = maintain haemodynamic stability - not improved with fluid
  5. IV hydrocortisone - haemodynamically unstable - despite fluid + inotropic
  6. glucose control via infucsion regular insulin
  7. adjunctive therapy
    - blood products
    - sedation
    - analgesia
    - NMB
    - RRT
    - DVT prophylaxis
    - stress ulcer prohylaxis
    - nutrition
