Supportive treatment

18
Q

Norovirus

A

Supportive treatment
(anti-pyretics, IV fluids)

19
Q

Plasmodium falciparum

A

Quinine
Doxycycline

20
Q

Candida albicans

A

Nystatin
Clotrimazole

Systemic: amphotericin B

21
Q

Cellulitis

A

Flucloxacillin
Effective against both staph aureus and strep pyogenes
Beta lactam
Penicillin
Cell wall inhibitor

22
Q

Tonsillitis

23
Q

Sepsis

A

Ceftriaxone
Sepsis six:
- senior help
- give o2 if below 92%
- send blood tests including culture
(eg ALT and AST tests, renal dysfunction tests, FBC, CRP, blood has to check lactate etc.)
- give IV antibiotics and consider source control (removal or drainage of source of infection)
- consider IV fluids
- monitor (urine output, observations)

24
Q

Peritonitis

A

E. Coli, therefore trimethoprim

25
Skin abscess
Staph aureus, therefore flucloxacillin (cellulitis) or vancomycin (MRSA)
26
Pneumonia
Haemophilus influenzae, therefore Co-amoxiclav
27
Pneumonia + sepsis
Streptococcus pneumoniae, therefore: Mild pneumonia: Amoxicillin (Doxycycline if penicillin allergy) Moderate: Amoxicillin AND Doxycycline (Doxycycline onlv if penicillin allergy) Severe: Co-amoxiclav and Doxycycline (cephalosporin and Doxycycline if penicillin allergy) Cell wall synthesis inhibitors
28
Profuse diarrhoea
Clostridium difficile, so vancomycin
29
Aortic valve stenosis/endocarditis
Penicillin or gentamicin
30
Pharyngitis
Adenovirus or EBV - supportive Streptococcus pyogenes - flucloxacillin
31
Shingles
Varicella zoster - acyclovir
32
Malaria
Plasmodium falciparum- quinine
33
Schistosomiasis
Helminths - praziquantel
34
Pneumocystis jirovecii
Co-trimoxazole
