If Home Oxygen is going to be given.

WHAT IMPORTANT THING MUST BE TOLD?

A

DON’T SMOKE. STOP SMOKING

Smoking cessation therapy should be recommended before home oxygen prescription.

ONLY BE PROVIDED TO PATIENTS WHO HAVE STOPPED.

Criteria for LTOT (>15hrs) ?

N.B - Patient CANNOT smoke

A

2 ABG Measurements taken on 2 occasions at least 3 weeks apart to demonstrate clinical stability.

  1. COPD with PaO2 7.3–8 kPa or lower when stable
  2. Severe chronic asthma with PaO2 <7.3 kPa
  3. Heart failure with daytime PaO2<7.3 kPa (Breathing/Nocturnal)
  4. Cystic fibrosis when PaO2 <7.3–8 kPa or lower
  5. interstitial lung disease with PaO2 <8 kPa
  6. pulmonary hypertension, without parenchymal lung involvement when PaO2<8 kPa;
  7. COPD/CF +SECONDARY polycythaemia w/<7.3–8 kPa or lower
  8. Obstructive sleep apnoea despite continuous positive airways pressure therapy
  9. neuromuscular or skeletal disorders
