Q

what happens in a stroke

A

interruption of blood supply to the brain either by a blood clot of burst cerebral blood vessel. majority of hte brain is aerobic so it requires o2 to function. without enough blood, neurones will die as lack of o2. depedning on where the interruption if blood supply is affects the fuc-

Q

why do sci patients have poor sensation and tone ect

A

the brain sends nerve impulses down the spinal column and because this is damaged, the nerve impulses may not be interpreted how they should and sent to the corresponding effectors correctly

Q

why are patients affected when they have a tbi

A

a tbi is a traumatic external force to the brain. Depending where the trauma is depends on what part of the brain is affected.

Q

why will PD patients have poor motor control…bradykinesia, tremor ect (coordination)

A

there is a reduced number of dopamine producing neurones (degeneration of Dp). dopamine is an important neurotransmitter involved in motor control. decreased levels of Dp mean inadequate regulation of movement and motor control.

Q

why will MS patients have poor coordination or low muscle tone

A

ms is demylination of neurones and an autoimmune disease. in brain and spinal cord.Myelin is important as it protects and insulates neurones. without myelin neurones will become damaged and nerve impulses will be slower/ interrupted. this means muscles cant contract/ relax as quickly as they should and there will be high tone, sensation will be affected and may have abnormal sensation. motor control will be affected.
