Q

Was the Treaty of Versailles fair?

A

YES:

  • it was not nearly as harsh as the Germans would have been with the Russians (Treaty of Brest-Litovsk) if they had won
  • Germany had lost the war and could only expect to be punished for it, and did not even lose as much land as expected
  • Germany had agreed to an armistice agreement

NO:

  • reparations punished the generations and out people into extreme poverty
  • takin the military away left Germany very vulnerable
  • it was a diktat and Germany had not been invited to the peace talks
  • other treaties were not as harsh
