Sin =
opposite divide by hypotenuse
Cos =
adjacent divide by hypotenuse
Tan =
opposite divide by adjacent
If x is denominater,
swap with the number behind the =
If x is numberator,
demoninator x number behind the =
what is pythagoras theorem?
a squared equals b squared plus c squared
how do you work out the longest side of a right angled triangle?
square the sides, add them together, then square root
how do you work out the shortest side of a right angled triangle?
square the sides, subtract them, then square root
what is the non right angled triangle sin rule for sides?
a over Sin A = b over Sin B
what is the non right angled triangle sin rule for angles?
Sin A over a = Sin b over b
Area of right angled triangle =
b x h divide by 2
Area of non right angled triangle =
1/2 x a x b x Sin C
What is the non right angled cosine rule for sides?
a squared = b squared + c squared - 2bc Cos A
What is the non right angled cosine rule for angles?
Cos A = b squared + c squared - a squared divided by 2bc
How do you know to use the cosine rule?
“Included angle” - angle has to be in between two sides
How do you know to use the sin rule?
“Opposite” - angle and sides are opposite
How do you know which angle is the biggest?
It’s opposite the right angle (right angled triangle) or opposite the longest side (non right angle triangle)
