Troop Leading Procedures (TLP)
The leader receives the mission through a Warning Order (WO), Operation Order (OPORD), or Fragmentary Order (FRAGO).
Receive the Mission

• Civil Considerations
The leader provides an initial warning order containing essential details to help troops begin their preparation.
Issue a Warning Order (WO)
The leader develops an estimate of the situation to use as basis for the tentative plan.
Make a Tentative Plan
Some units begin movement while the leader still planning or forward reconnoitering.
Start Necessary Movement
If time allows, the leader makes a personal reconnaissance to verify his terrain analysis, adjust his plan, confirm the usability of routes, and to time any critical movements.
Reconnoiter
The leader completes his plan based on the information gathered from the reconnaissance and on any changes in the situation.
Complete the Plan.
Platoon and squad leaders normally issue oral OPORD.
Issue the Complete Order.
Leaders conduct rehearsals and inspections to ensure mission readiness.
Supervise.
Include the practice of having SLs brief their plan of action and the sequence of execution to the PLTN LDR.
