Tropical Storms Flashcards
(9 cards)
What are the names used to refer to violent rotating tropical storms?
Hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones.
What conditions are necessary for a tropical storm to form?
A warm ocean (27 degrees Celsius or above) and light winds.
How is a tropical storm formed?
Warm moist air rises from the ocean, creating an area of low pressure. The incoming air warms up and rises, bringing moisture that cools and condenses to form storm clouds, creating the eye wall.
In which direction do tropical storms typically move?
From east to west due to the winds near the equator.
Where are tropical storms typically found?
In areas that are close to the equator.
What are the types of tectonic plates?
Destructive, constructive, and conservative.
What happens at destructive tectonic plate boundaries?
The more dense oceanic plate is forced under the continental plate.
What occurs at constructive tectonic plate boundaries?
The plates are moving away from one another.
What characterizes conservative tectonic plate boundaries?
Two plate boundaries slide past each other.
