Threatened Abortion
Bleeding but Os closed, Products of Conception intact
Inevitable Abortion
POC intact but Os open and uterine contents visible
Incomplete Abortion
Some, but not all POC expelled Os open
Complete Abortion
All POC expelled
Missed Abortion
POC intact and Os closed but fetus not viable
Septic Abortion
incomplete abortion with infected uterus. Foul discharge, fever/chills, cervical motion tenderness
Treatment of threatened abortion
Bed rest, close FU, Serial HCG (Doubling)
Treatment of inevitable abortion
Dilation and curettage (D&C) to remove products or misoprostol to hasten POC evacuation
Treatment of Incomplete Abortion
Wait for body to finish expelling, misoprostol, D&C
Treatment of Complete Abortion
Close follow up
Treatment of Missed abortion
D&C, Misoprostol
Treatment of Septic Abortion
Dilation and evacuation, IV broad spectrum anbx
