what is a pressure group?

A

Pressure groups are organisations that try to influence government policies by gaining public support for change and by persuading the politicians who make the laws that change is needed.

A

Many campaigns that are later taken up by newspapers, politicians and pressure groups are started by lone individuals who feel strongly enough about a particular policy to take action themselves.

A

Newspapers can play an important role in policy making. Newspapers can help to shape the law by mobilising public opinion so that government takes action.
Eg Enfield newspaper anti-knife campaign (aimed to discourage teenagers)
