Types Of Chemical Reactions Flashcards
(8 cards)
1
Q
Precipitate
A
The solids that forms in a solution during a chemical reaction
2
Q
Precipitate reactions
A
Chemical reactions where solids from when two solutions of soluble salts react
3
Q
Ion exchange reactions
A
Reactions where the positive ion exchange their respective negative ions due to a driving force
4
Q
Test for chlorides
- Test
- Observation
- Confirmation
A
- Add a few drops of AgNO3 to the halide solution and shake
- A white precipitate of silver chloride forms ( AgCl(s) )
- Add HNO3- if it doesn’t dissolve then the salt is a chloride
5
Q
Test for Bromides
- Test
- Observation
- Confirmation
A
- Add AgNO3
- A cream coloured precipitate will form
- Add HNO3 - If it doesn’t dissolve then it’s a bromide
6
Q
Test for iodine’s
- Test
- Observation
- Confirmation
A
- Add AgNO3
- A yellow precipitate will form
- Add HNO3 - if it doesn’t dissolve then it’s iodine
7
Q
Test for sulphates
- Test
- Observation
- Confirmation
A
- Add a few drops of either BaNO3 or BaCl2
- A white precipitate of BaSO4
- Add HNO3 - if it doesn’t dissolve then it’s sulphate
8
Q
Test carbonates (CO2 3-)
- Test
- Observation
- Confirmation
A
- Add Ba(NO3)2 or BaCl2
- A white precipitate of BaCO3 forms
- Add concentrated HNO3
If it does dissolve and disappears then CO2 (g) is formed:
BaCO3 + 2HNO3 —> Ba(NO3)2 + H2O + CO2
