types of circuits Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
series circuit
A
an electrical circuit where all the components are connected in a single loop creating only one path for the current to flow
2
Q
parallel circuit
A
an electrical circuit where multiple components are connected across each other, creating many different paths for the current to flow
3
Q
characteristics of a series circuit
A
- the total resistance is the sum of the individual resistances of all the components
- if any component fails, the entire circuit is broken
- the current remains the same throughout the circuit
4
Q
characteristics of a parallel circuit
A
- the voltage is the same across each component of the circuit
- if one component fails each component has its own branch connected to the source
- to measure the p.d the voltmeter must be connected in parallel
