what is compliance ?

A
  • the person conforms publiically but privatley disagrees
  • they change their public behaviour (way they act), but not their private beliefs
  • shallowest form of conformity - usually short term change
  • links to normative social influence

what is identification ?

A
  • conform to the opinions of the group becuase they posses a trait we value
  • identify with the group, so we want to be a part of it
  • change their public and private behaviour but only while the group is present
  • short term change and links to normative influence

What is internalisation ?

A
  • confoming publically and privately becuase they have influenced and accepted the views of the group
  • deepest form of conformity, most perminent - lasts even though the majority group is not present
  • links to informational social influence
