What is a advantage and disadvantage of Qualitative data( non numerical ) ?
One advantage is that there is richness in detail which means greater external validity
One disadvantage is that its hard to analyse bbecause its hard to identify patterns and make comparisons , this leads to subjective interpretation
What is a advantage and disadvantage of Quantative data( numerical ) ?
One advantage is that it is easier to analyse, disadvantage is that its narrower in meaning because there is less detail
What is Primary data ?
First hand data collected for purpose of investigation
What is an advantage and disadvantage of primary data ?
Advantage : fits the job , study designed only to extract the data needed so information is directly relevant to research aims .
Disadvantage :requires time and effort , designing and collating questionnaires takes time and expense , secondary data can be accessed within minutes .
What is secondary data ?
Collected by someone other than the person who is conducting the research , e.g.work of other psychologists or government statistics .
What is an advantage and disadvantage of secondary data ?
Advantage : Inexpensive , The desired information may already exist , this requires minimal effort making it inexpensive
Disadvantage : Quality may be poor because information may be outdated or incomplete , this challenges the validity of any conclusions .
What is a Meta-analysis ?
A type of secondary data that involves combinig data from a large number of studies .
What is an advantage and disadvantage of Meta-analysis ?
Advantage : Increases validity of conclusions . The eventual sample size is much larger than individual samples , this increases the extent to which generalistions can be made
Disadvantage: Publication bias , the researchers may not select all relevant studies , leaving out negative or non signifcant results , therefore conclusions may lack validity .
