Types of energy Flashcards
What is energy?
Energy is something that is needed to make something happen or change
Why does energy need to be transferred to objects?
To make them move, heat up, produce light and a variety of other things.
How is energy measured in?
Joules ( J ) or Kilojoules ( kJ )
What is 1kJ in joules?
1000 J
How do we usually measure the energy in food and why?
In kJ because food contains a lot of energy and that makes it more manageable
Convert 2500 J to kJ
2.5 kJ
Convert 40 kJ to J
40,000 J
Convert 0.002kJ to J
2 J
What is thermal energy?
Energy stored in a hot object
What is chemical energy?
Energy stored in fuel, cells and food
What is kinetic energy?
Energy stored in a moving object
What is gravitational potential energy?
Energy stored when an object is held on a high position
What is elastic potential energy?
Energy stored when an object is stretched, squashed, bent, or twisted
What is the principle of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transferred from one type of energy to another
What is CE?
Chemical energy
What is EPE?
Elastic potential energy
What is GPE?
Gravitational potential energy
What is TE?
Thermal energy
What is NE?
Nuclear energy
What is KE?
Kinetic energy
What type of energy is stored in a light bulb?
Light energy
What type of energy is stored in an elastic band?
Elastic energy
