Q

Metaphor

A

The imaginative identification of two distinct objects or ideas: God is a sun. God is a shield. These are two metaphors. God is identified with the idea of providing what is beneficial and pleasant. He is also identified with protection, which is obvious. Psalm 84

Q

Metonymy

A

I think this was misspelled before as “metomymy” [sic!]. The substitution of one word for another. Your throne, o God, will last for ever and ever. Well, what he sits on is not the point, but what he is doing on the throne - reigning. The scepter of justice depicts justice being carried out by the one who holds the scepter. (Psalm 45)
