Types of method Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
Advantages of random?
A
- avoids human choice - reducing sampling bias
- fair representation – all areas have equal chance of being selected
2
Q
Disadvantages of random?
A
- may lead to poor representation of overall parent population - leaves gaps
- practical contstraints in terms of time and problems to access certain parts of study area
3
Q
Advantages of systematic?
A
- accurately reflects continuous changes in variables by ensuring good coverage of area - shows patterns
- ensures fairly even coverage of area when collecting data
4
Q
Disadvantages of systematic?
A
- can miss anomalies and leave sampling gaps as not all points have equal chance of being selected
- therefore, data may not be fully representative of the area
5
Q
Advantages of stratified?
A
- accurately reflects population being studied as researches are stratifyiing the entire population - ensures each subgroup within poplulation receives proper representation within sample
6
Q
Disadvantages of stratified?
A
- requires good prior knowledge of area
- proportion of subsets must be known otherwise results will possibly be bias
