-Government televised a warning to people to prepare and evacuate

-Uk deployed aircraft carriers to aid with search and rescue and deliver 200,000 tonnes of aid by helicopter
-USA send ships with 13,000 personnel to aid with recovery
-Over 1,200 evacuation centres set up for homeless
-Red cross supplied 1.1 million with clean water to limit disease outbreak

-UNDP set up cash-for-work that paid locals to clear debris
-UNICEF and WHO vaccinated 330,000 against polio and measles
-Gov created ‘build back better’ strategy pledging 205,000 homes would be built to higher standard. By 2016 only 1% of target achieved
